JULY 26 - AUG. 11, 2007
LYSISTRATA

“The women! – what could they ever do that was any use? Sitting at home putting flowers in their hair, putting on cosmetics and saffron gowns and Cimberian see-through shifts, with slippers on our feet?" What if women had found the answer to the peace process? In this classic Greek comedy, Lysistrata and her lovely ladies push the men of Athens and Sparta to the boiling point. This sexy comedy asks questions not only of war and peace between countries but also of war and peace between the sexes. Originally produced in 2002.

SEP. 27 - OCT. 13, 2007
VINEGAR TOM

“What name would you put to yourself? You’re not a wife or a widow. You’re not a virgin. Tell me a name for what you are.” This fascinating play is described by the Obie Award winning playwright as “a play about witches without any witches in it.” Vinegar Tom explores the connection between fear of female sexuality and witch hysteria in the 17th century through multiple vignettes sprinkled with contemporary musical interludes. (Adult content) Originally produced in 1999.

NOV. 23 - DEC. 3, 2007
THE LION, THE WITCH & THE WARDROBE

DRAMATIZED BY JOSEPH ROBINETTE

“Oh, you’ll be so glad you came to Narnia. And I hope the others will find their way here, too, so that I can show all of you our beautiful country – and introduce you to our lovely witch – uh, Queen.” This production faithfully recreates the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, his struggle with the White Witch, and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into the exciting, never to be forgotten Narnia. This story of love, faith, courage and giving, with the triumph of good over evil, is a true celebration of life. Presented at the Bijou Theatre with school matinee performances! Originally produced in 2005.

DEC. 13 - 22, 2007
THE SANTALAND DIARIES

“Again this morning I got stuck at the Magic Window, which is really boring. I’m supposed to stand around and say, “Step on the Magic Star and you can see Santa!” I said that for a while and then I started saying, “Step on the Magic Star and you can see Cher!” In Sedaris’ dark comedy, we travel through the horrors of taking a job as an elf in Macy’s Santaland. Originally produced as a staged reading in 1998.

FEB. 23 - MAR. 1, 2008
THE SUNSET LIMITED

A startling encounter on a New York subway platform leads two strangers to a run-down tenement where a life or death decision must be made. In that small apartment, “Black” (played by Steve Dupree) and “White” (played by Greg Congleton), begin a conversation that leads each back through his own history, mining the origins of two fundamentally opposing world views. Deft, spare, and full of artful tension, THE SUNSET LIMITED is a beautifully crafted, consistently thought-provoking, and deceptively intimate work by one of the most insightful writers of our time.

May 8 - MAY 17, 2008
THE PERSECUTION AND ASSASSINATION OF JEAN-PAUL MARAT AS PERFORMED BY THE INMATES OF THE ASYLUM OF CHARENTON UNDER THE DIRECTON OF THE MARQUIS DE SADE (a.k.a. MARAT/SADE)

“For today we live in far different times. We have no oppressors, no violent crimes and although we’re at war, anyone can see it can only end in victory.” Not exactly Brecht and not exactly Shakespeare but very much of our time, MARAT/SADE is social critique utilizing components of text, movement and music to tell the story of Jean-Paul Marat during the French Revolution. Set in an insane asylum where the Marquis de Sade directs theatre productions for the rehabilitation of its inmates. The cast will explore the play’s themes of war, gender, violence, class struggle and religion. Performed at Ironwood Studios. May 10th performance begins at 9pm. All others start at 8pm.
